Miramar Home Fire Possibly Caused by Heating System, Homeowner Says

An investigation is underway in Broward County after a Miramar homeowner reported that his house caught fire early Monday morning after turning on the heating system.

The homeowner told CBS News Miami the fire began just after 3 a.m. His wife had complained of being cold amid dangerously low temperatures across South Florida. When he turned on the home’s heating system—not a space heater—he noticed smoke. He shut it off, but the fire had already started.

He described hearing a boom and seeing smoke coming from the roof. He called 911 and safely evacuated with his wife and dog.

The Miramar Fire Department responded around 3:30 a.m. at the 2900 block of Buttonwood Avenue. Flames were visible upon arrival, but everyone was already outside. Fire crews extinguished the blaze before it spread to other structures.

No injuries were reported. The Fire Marshal was at the scene to determine the cause of the fire. No additional details have been released.
