Man charged in Downers Grove killing of pregnant woman released from hospital, returned to custody, DuPage County officials say

DuPage County authorities said the Westmont man charged with killing a pregnant woman in Downers Grove last week has been released from the hospital and is back in custody at the DuPage County Correctional Facility.

The DuPage County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Sunday that 19-year-old Nedas Revuckas had been hospitalized after being treated for what appeared to be self-inflicted injuries.

Revuckas was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition on Thursday evening. The sheriff’s office did not specify how the injuries occurred.

Prosecutors said Revuckas faces a first-degree murder charge for allegedly stabbing 30-year-old Eliza Morales about 70 times, mostly in the head and neck, on Monday, Jan. 26. Authorities said he then set her apartment on fire following a Facebook Marketplace transaction that went wrong.

Morales, who was five months pregnant, is survived by her husband and toddler. Officials said neither was home at the time of the incident.

DuPage County Judge Joshua Dieden denied Revuckas pretrial release during a hearing Thursday before he was transported to the hospital. Authorities said it remains unclear whether Revuckas was placed on suicide watch while in custody.
