A former employee of a Charleston pizza restaurant accused of shooting a man through a drive-thru window appeared in court on Wednesday.
Jahtique Farmer, 21, entered a not guilty plea to charges including two counts of malicious wounding, wanton endangerment, use of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and attempted murder.
Farmer was working at the Little Caesars located in the Patrick Street Plaza area in October when he is accused of shooting a man through the drive-thru.
According to a criminal complaint, co-workers told police Farmer became irritated by “an unknown male outside of the store staring at him” before retrieving a gun from his vehicle.
Employees said the victim, 30-year-old Rashawn Bowles of Charleston, approached the window asking for a cheese pizza. The complaint states Farmer could be heard saying, “you want to kill me,” before firing three shots toward Bowles from the drive-thru window.
Police said Bowles was hit twice, once in the lower left side of his face and once in the abdomen. According to the complaint, he was able to drive himself to the hospital and was last reported to be in stable condition.
Officers said video footage from inside the restaurant shows Farmer pointing the gun out of the drive-thru window and firing three shots.
A trial date has been scheduled for April 20. Farmer remains in custody on a $250,000 cash-only bond.
