Jeffersonville police have arrested a 41-year-old woman accused of stealing a police vehicle and hitting an officer during an investigation over the weekend.
Officers responded to The Meranda apartments around 6:04 p.m. on Feb. 7 following a report of a battery that was later determined to be a robbery. Police said they found a woman in a hallway with visible facial injuries. She reported being struck multiple times and said her phone had been taken. She was transported to a hospital for treatment.
During the investigation, police identified Jasmine Sheckles as a suspect. Authorities allege Sheckles attempted to flee the scene by taking control of a Jeffersonville police vehicle and driving away, striking an officer in the process. The injured officer was taken to a hospital and later cleared by medical staff.
The incident led to a pursuit, though police have not released additional details. WAVE News has contacted the prosecutor’s office for further information.
