Joliet man charged after allegedly attacking pregnant spouse during break-in

A 39-year-old man is facing multiple felony charges after police say he attacked his pregnant spouse and another person during a home invasion Tuesday night.

Joliet police said Thomas Love has been charged with home invasion, aggravated battery to a peace officer, aggravated domestic battery, aggravated battery to a pregnant person, aggravated battery to a person 60 years of age or older and criminal trespass to state-supported land.

The charges stem from an incident that reportedly occurred just after 11 p.m. at a residence in the 400 block of North Bluff Street.

Officers responded to a call about an unwanted man at the home. When they arrived, police said Love had forced his way inside after being told he was not welcome.

Investigators said Love allegedly pushed his pregnant spouse to the ground and strangled her after entering the home. He is also accused of repeatedly striking a 60-year-old man inside the apartment.

During the confrontation, police said the woman grabbed a small screwdriver and stabbed Love in the head in an attempt to stop the attack. Authorities said Love then pushed her to the ground and stomped on her stomach.

When officers arrived, Love and the two victims were transported to a hospital. While there, police said Love allegedly pushed an officer.

After he was released from the hospital, Love was taken into custody.

Police have not released an update on the victims’ conditions.
