A small single-engine plane flipped at the Southwest Michigan Regional Airport in Benton Harbor.
Two people were on board the plane. Both managed to exit on their own, though one was taken to the hospital with cuts.
The exact cause of the incident is still under investigation. Some speculate that gusty winds may have contributed to the plane flipping.
Crews recently cleared the runway after the accident, which occurred around 9:30 a.m. The runway was temporarily closed.
The airport director told WSBT 22 that the flight was not scheduled and the reason for the landing remains unclear. He added that weather can affect smaller planes differently.
“Some planes are going to be more affected by these winds than others, if they’re smaller or larger, but either way this is just speculation. It’s not confirmed that’s what caused the flip, but speculation is because of the wind,” said Christopher Beckham, airport director.
Both people exited safely before emergency crews arrived.
