A former worship pastor at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church has been arrested on multiple charges involving alleged sexual abuse of a juvenile in Daviess County.
According to Kentucky State Police, troopers arrested David A. Rodgers, 40, of Utica, around 7:30 p.m. Monday and booked him into the Daviess County Jail.
Investigators allege Rodgers engaged in a sexual relationship with a juvenile through a position of special trust. Authorities say the alleged abuse began approximately 10 to 11 years ago, when the victim was around 12 years old, and escalated over time.
Rodgers is charged with rape, sodomy, sexual abuse, procuring or promoting the use of a minor by electronic means, and possession of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor under 12.
State police said they received information in January from someone close to the victim. After conducting interviews with both the victim and Rodgers, detectives determined there was sufficient cause to make an arrest.
Rodgers has since posted bond and been released from custody. Court records show his arraignment is scheduled for March 18 at 8:30 a.m.
In a statement, Pleasant Grove Baptist Church said leadership became aware of the allegations on Feb. 16 and described the claims as deeply troubling. The church said Rodgers has been terminated from his position and barred from participating in church-sponsored activities, adding that it takes allegations of sexual assault seriously and remains committed to the safety of its congregation, especially children.
