Overnight Shooting Closes Northbound I-57 for Hours, Illinois State Police Report

A shooting on the city’s South Side overnight forced authorities to shut down the northbound lanes of I-57 for several hours early Sunday, according to Illinois State Police.

Officials reopened all lanes around 6:30 a.m.

ISP reported that the shooting occurred at approximately 1:15 a.m. on northbound I-57, just north of Halsted Street. Authorities diverted traffic at 111th Street while crews closed the lanes. Injuries were reported in connection with the incident.

Officials have not released additional details at this time.
