A former employee of the Cheboygan County Humane Society has been charged with embezzlement after allegedly misappropriating about $10,000 in organizational funds for personal use, according to the Michigan State Police.
Richelle Brown, 34, of Indian River, was arraigned Feb. 23 in 89th District Court on one count of embezzlement involving between $1,000 and $20,000. She was released on a $5,000 personal bond.
Investigation Details
The MSP Gaylord Post began investigating the case on March 27, 2025. Authorities said their preliminary investigation indicates Brown allegedly took the funds over several months while employed at the humane society.
The Cheboygan County Prosecutor’s Office authorized a warrant for Brown’s arrest after reviewing the case.
Brown’s next court appearance is scheduled for March 19 at 8:30 a.m.
The case remains pending.
