Indiana Teen Sentenced to 20 Years for Plotting High School Mass Shooting

A 19-year-old Indiana teen was sentenced to 20 years in prison, with eight years suspended, after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit murder for planning a mass shooting at Mooresville High School. The sentence will be followed by five years of probation.

Trinity Shockley apologized in court to her intended target and the community, expressing remorse and saying her mental health had improved after receiving support from caring individuals.

Shockley’s plot was uncovered when a friend reported her plans to the FBI’s Sandy Hook tip line. According to authorities, she had planned the attack for February 14 and had access to an AR-15 rifle and a bulletproof vest. Investigators noted that Shockley had previously been bullied and had expressed admiration for Nikolas Cruz, the perpetrator of the 2018 Parkland school shooting.

The tip ultimately prevented a potential tragedy and led to Shockley’s arrest and conviction.
