Father and Three Children Killed in Head-On Crash with Stolen Car Driven by Parolee

A Colorado father and three children were killed when their car was struck head-on by a stolen vehicle driven by a career criminal on November 24.

Alvin Corado, 35, and his children MaKenlee, 11, Toretto, 8, along with family friend Jase Green, 12, died at the scene on Highway 83 in Douglas County. Two other children, Mia Corado, 13, and Jordan Green, 14, survived and remain hospitalized with serious injuries.

Authorities reported that Walter Huling, 31, carjacked a Toyota hatchback from a parking garage in Aurora about an hour before the crash. Huling, who was on parole and had a lengthy criminal record including assaults, burglaries, and DUIs, lost control of the stolen vehicle, crossed into oncoming traffic, and collided with the Corado family’s Ford sedan. Huling was killed instantly.

Mia Corado suffered a lacerated liver, fractured pelvis, broken back, and multiple lung injuries. Her mother shared that Mia was conscious during the crash and witnessed the deaths of her family members.

A vigil for MaKenlee and Toretto will be held at New Song Church in Colorado Springs. A GoFundMe has been launched to assist the family with funeral expenses, medical bills, and lost income. Sabin Middle School described MaKenlee’s death as “incomprehensible” and asked the community to keep the family in their thoughts.

Douglas County District Attorney George Brauchler criticized the parole system, stating that Huling’s criminal history meant he should never have been on the streets.
