Shooting reported after police respond to domestic disturbance in Traverse City

A police response to a domestic disturbance in Traverse City, Michigan on Friday evening escalated into a shooting, prompting a large law enforcement presence near a local apartment complex.

Officers with the Traverse City Police Department were initially dispatched to the area near Munson Place and Munson Avenue following reports of a domestic dispute.

State police called to investigate

Authorities later requested assistance from the Michigan State Police to investigate the situation, according to a statement from the agency’s  Seventh District.

As of Friday evening, officials had not released detailed information about what led to the shooting or how officers were involved in the incident.

Reports of injuries during incident

Local reports indicated that gunfire occurred while officers were responding to the call. Emergency crews reportedly performed CPR on a person who suffered a gunshot wound.

A woman was also reported to have sustained multiple stab wounds during the incident.

The apartment complex where the incident occurred is located near Northwestern Michigan College.

Heavy emergency response

Emergency dispatchers first reported the large police presence around 5:30 p.m., when more than a dozen police and emergency vehicles were seen heading toward the residential area.

Early reports suggested that no law enforcement officers were injured.

Authorities said more details are expected to be released as the investigation continues.
