Suspected Iran-linked cyberattack disrupts systems at Michigan medical device company

A suspected cyberattack linked to Iranian hackers disrupted computer systems at a major medical device company headquartered in Portage, Michigan, leaving employees uncertain about when operations will fully resume.

The incident affected systems at Stryker Corporation, a global healthcare technology company based at its headquarters on Stryker Way in Portage.

Workers sent home after systems shut down

According to an employee who spoke anonymously, staff arriving for work on March 11 discovered that company systems were not functioning. Workers were reportedly told that a cyberattack had wiped data from devices connected to the company network.

Because employees rely heavily on computer systems to produce medical devices, many were sent home around 9 a.m. while the issue was addressed.

Some monitors displayed messages instructing users to contact technical support, the worker said.

Reports suggest Iran-linked hacking group

Several media reports indicated the attack may be connected to an Iran-linked hacking group. Employees and contractors reportedly saw symbols associated with the group appearing on affected devices.

The worker also said that some company phones—particularly work devices running Microsoft applications—appeared to have been erased.

However, Stryker Corporation later confirmed the situation as a “cybersecurity attack” and said it had launched an investigation.

Company says products remain safe

The company said it activated its incident response procedures and began working with outside cybersecurity specialists to investigate the disruption.

In a statement, Stryker said the issue was limited to its internal Microsoft environment and did not affect its connected medical devices.

Officials added that no malware or ransomware has been detected, and the company’s products remain safe to use.

Employees uncertain about next steps

Workers affected by the shutdown said they are unsure when they will be able to return to work or whether they will need to use vacation time for missed days.

The employee who spoke with reporters said the situation was frustrating, particularly because global political conflicts can sometimes have unexpected effects on everyday workers far from the source of the dispute.

Stryker Corporation reported approximately $25.1 billion in worldwide sales in 2025, according to industry reports.

Authorities and cybersecurity experts continue to investigate the incident.
