Three hospitalized after crash involving Cave City police cruiser in Madison County

Three people were taken to a hospital Friday afternoon after a crash involving a police cruiser in Madison County, according to the Kentucky State Police.

Authorities said the collision occurred shortly before 4 p.m. when a marked patrol vehicle from the Cave City Police Department was traveling west on Lancaster Road.

Investigators said the officer attempted to make a left turn onto Caleast Road but pulled into the path of an oncoming Hyundai Genesis traveling eastbound on Lancaster Road. The two vehicles then collided.

Emergency crews responded to the scene and transported the drivers of both vehicles, along with a juvenile passenger, to Baptist Health Richmond for treatment.

Officials said all three individuals suffered minor injuries.

Crash investigation underway

State police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

The Cave City, where the patrol vehicle originated, is located roughly 138 miles southwest of Richmond.

Authorities have not released additional details as the investigation remains ongoing.
