Indiana Man Sentenced in Jackson County Child Predator Sting Case

A 35-year-old man from Indiana has been sentenced to jail after attempting to meet someone he believed to be an underage girl in Jackson County, authorities said.

Eddie Lee McElroy was sentenced to one year in jail followed by five years of probation by Circuit Judge John McBain on March 25. He previously pleaded guilty to accosting a child for immoral purposes and using a computer to commit a crime.

Plea Deal Changed After New Charges

McElroy had initially secured a plea agreement that would have allowed him to avoid jail time. However, that agreement was revoked after he was charged with possession of child pornography in a separate case in Hillsdale County while out on bond.

His attorney stated that McElroy needs treatment for behavioral issues, while the judge noted the seriousness of the offenses despite the defendant’s previously clean criminal record.

Part of Larger Undercover Operation

McElroy was one of five individuals arrested during an undercover operation targeting online child exploitation. The investigation was conducted jointly by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, the Michigan State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, and the Jackson Narcotics Enforcement Team.

Officials said the suspects communicated online with undercover officers posing as minors in the lead-up to their arrests in November 2024.

Ongoing Cases

The four other suspects arrested in connection with the operation are still awaiting trial.

Authorities continue to warn about the dangers of online exploitation and stress ongoing efforts to identify and arrest offenders targeting minors.
