A 22-year-old man from Saginaw is facing serious charges, including attempted murder, following a drive-by shooting involving an Airbnb property in Bay City.
Authorities identified the suspect as Deonte J. Jeffries, who was arraigned on multiple felony counts, including assault with intent to murder, weapons violations, and property damage. The most severe charge carries a potential life sentence, and a judge ordered him held without bond.
Dozens of Shots Fired, No Injuries Reported
The shooting unfolded shortly after midnight on March 22, near 21st and South Jefferson streets, where a birthday party was taking place at a rented home. Police say more than 30 rounds were fired during the incident.
Despite the intensity of the gunfire, no one was struck. Investigators described the outcome as “remarkable,” given the scale of the shooting.
Officers recovered 32 shell casings from four different calibers and documented multiple bullet impacts on nearby homes and a parked vehicle.
Surveillance Footage Key to Investigation
According to investigators, surveillance footage shows several individuals exiting the house armed with guns and firing at a passing vehicle. Jeffries is accused of joining the shooting moments later and firing additional rounds.
The targeted vehicle, driven by a 32-year-old woman, was struck by gunfire. A bullet reportedly passed through parts of the car’s interior before exiting, though the driver was not injured.
Multiple Suspects Involved
Prosecutors say two additional men were involved. One suspect has been arrested following a police pursuit, while another remains at large.
Bay County Prosecutor Michael P. Kanuszewski said the suspects are being charged aggressively due to the “reckless and dangerous” nature of the incident.
Next Court Date
Jeffries is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary examination on April 7 as the investigation continues.
Authorities are still working to determine the motive behind the shooting.
