A Miami mother has been arrested after her 6-year-old son was found wandering alone late at night, prompting concerns about child safety and neglect, authorities said.
Child Found Alone in Allapattah
According to the Miami Police Department, the boy was discovered around 11 p.m. Wednesday near Northwest 7th Avenue and Northwest 17th Street in the Allapattah neighborhood, close to Camillus House.
A Good Samaritan spotted the child and contacted police after finding him alone on the street.
Identity Confirmed Through School Tip
Police initially sought public assistance to identify the child. Investigators later received a tip from the boy’s school, which helped them locate his home nearby and identify his mother.
Mother Did Not Report Child Missing
Authorities said the child’s mother never reported him missing, raising serious concerns.
Officers waited outside the residence until she answered the door the following morning. Police noted that from the time the child was found until approximately 10 a.m., no missing child report had been filed.
Charges and Ongoing Investigation
Police said the mother will face criminal charges, including likely child neglect, especially given that the child reportedly has learning disabilities.
Investigators are still working to determine:
- How the child ended up alone outside
- Why the mother failed to report him missing
- What occurred in the hours leading up to the incident
Child Now in State Custody
The boy is currently in the care of the Department of Children and Families (DCF) pending a court hearing.
