Victim Identified in Floyd County Incident
Authorities have identified a 64-year-old woman who was fatally attacked by a dog while walking in a rural area of Floyd County.
The victim, Cynthia “Cindy” Patton Prater, died at the scene following the incident, which occurred Sunday afternoon in the community of Maytown.
Attack Happened Along Familiar Route
According to the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office, the attack took place shortly before 3 p.m. along Railroad Street, a quiet stretch west of Pikeville.
Investigators said Prater was known to regularly walk in the area, often accompanied by the same dog involved in the attack.
Sudden Aggression Under Investigation
Witness video from the scene reportedly showed a German shepherd attacking Prater. Officials said the reason for the sudden aggression remains unclear.
Dog Euthanized, Examination Planned
The dog has since been euthanized. Authorities confirmed that a necropsy will be conducted to determine whether any underlying medical or environmental factors contributed to the attack.
