Squatting Dispute Turns Violent: Two Shot in Saginaw, Michigan, Man Charged, Woman Sought

A dispute at a home in Saginaw, Michigan turned violent after two people were shot, leading to charges against a Florida man and a manhunt for his alleged accomplice.

Paul E. Menzies Jr., 34, was arraigned on multiple felony charges, including assault with intent to murder, weapons possession, and felony firearm offenses. The most serious charge carries a potential life sentence.

Prosecutors say Menzies and his 57-year-old girlfriend had been staying at a home on South 19th Street without permission. On  April 27, the property’s owner arrived at the house with a 23-year-old woman, reportedly intending to give Menzies money to relocate.

Authorities allege the situation escalated into an argument, during which Menzies pulled out a revolver and shot the homeowner. His girlfriend is then accused of using the same weapon to shoot the woman accompanying him.

Both victims managed to escape the scene and drove to Hoyt Public Library, where emergency responders were called. They were transported to a nearby hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Police later arrested Menzies at the residence and recovered a revolver believed to have been used in the shooting. His girlfriend had already fled the scene, and a warrant has been issued for her arrest on similar charges.

Menzies remains in custody on a $500,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court again on May 13.
