Guilty Plea Brings Closure to Jackson Murder Case After Mistrial

A murder case in Jackson, Michigan has come to an end after the accused accepted a plea deal following an earlier mistrial.

Ke’Juan Watts, 22, pleaded guilty on April 10 to one count of manslaughter, according to court records. The charge carries a potential sentence of up to 15 years in prison.

Watts had been awaiting a second trial after his initial trial ended in a hung jury, leaving the case unresolved.

As part of the plea agreement, prosecutors agreed to dismiss multiple additional charges, including two counts of assault with intent to cause great bodily harm and three counts related to the use of a firearm during a felony.

The case stems from the 2021 shooting death of a woman in a parking lot near downtown Jackson. The plea now brings a resolution to a case that had remained uncertain following the mistrial.
