Man tied to Fort Pierce homicide critically hurt in Philadelphia shooting, stabbing

A man found shot and stabbed in Philadelphia could help St. Lucie County investigators solve a murder.

Philadelphia police said 32-year-old Arkel Garcia was found unconscious Sunday after being shot and stabbed multiple times.

He remains in critical condition.

Garcia has been wanted in connection with several other crimes, including a November murder in Fort Pierce.

During a news conference last month, St. Lucie County Sheriff Richard del Toro identified Garcia as a person of interest in the Nov. 28 killing of Antoine Daniels.

Investigators found Daniels beaten to death inside a home on South Market Avenue in Fort Pierce.

Authorities said someone set the home on fire after the murder.

At the same news conference, del Toro said Garcia was also wanted in Philadelphia in connection with the Nov. 12 murder of a 68-year-old man.

“The main thing for our agency and for Philadelphia right now is to get this person into custody,” del Toro said.

Philadelphia police said Garcia had previously been in custody, serving a life sentence for a 2015 murder involving a dispute over a pair of headphones.

He was later released after a detective tied to his case was convicted of sexually assaulting multiple suspects during his career.

Garcia is currently hospitalized in Philadelphia.

The person accused of shooting and stabbing him has not been charged and claimed he acted only after Garcia had shot someone else.

The investigation remains ongoing.

The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office said it is closely monitoring the situation and wants to speak with Garcia if his condition improves. Detectives are expected to travel to Philadelphia if that happens.
