Albion College on Lockdown as Police Search for Armed Juvenile Suspect

ALBION, Michigan (April 23, 2026)Albion College and several nearby locations were placed on lockdown Thursday as authorities searched for a suspected armed juvenile in the area, officials confirmed.

The lockdown began around 11:30 a.m. after public safety officials issued an alert instructing students, staff, and visitors to shelter in place. The precautionary measure followed reports of a possible armed individual nearby.

According to local authorities, the situation unfolded earlier in the day when a caller reported a confrontation involving several young people near North Clinton and Pine streets. During the incident, one individual was allegedly seen with a handgun and reportedly pointed it at another person.

Officers responding to the scene spotted a suspect matching the description, who then fled on foot heading east. Police quickly secured the area and launched a search operation.

As a safety measure, additional locations—including Marshall Opportunity High School, Harrington Elementary School, downtown businesses, and city offices—were also placed under lockdown.

Law enforcement officials said there have been no reported injuries. Police units, along with a K9 team and aerial drone support, are actively searching the area.

Authorities have described the suspect as a juvenile male believed to be armed with a handgun. As of midday, officers had not yet located or questioned others involved in the initial confrontation.

The situation remains active, and officials are urging the public to follow safety instructions while the search continues.
