Incident in Little Haiti Leaves One Dead
Authorities have arrested a suspect in connection with a fatal triple shooting that occurred during the Taste of Miami Karnival event in Little Haiti.
The Miami Police Department confirmed that 22-year-old Jamesly Mezime was taken into custody on Thursday following a coordinated operation.
Arrest Follows Surveillance Operation
Police said specialized units, including the Priority Support Detail, Domestic Violence Apprehension Team, and Homicide Unit, tracked Mezime before conducting a felony stop.
He was arrested without incident after officers stopped the vehicle he was traveling in.
Officials praised the coordinated effort, highlighting their commitment to identifying and apprehending suspects involved in violent crimes.
Triple Shooting During Festival
The shooting took place just before 11:30 p.m. on Sunday at the Taste of Miami Karnival, a community event meant for celebration.
Gunfire struck three individuals:
- One victim, Kitchner Cyrille, 23, died from his injuries
- Two others were injured but survived
Family Speaks Out After Tragedy
Family members described Cyrille as a caring and supportive person who was always willing to help others.
His aunt expressed deep grief, calling the incident devastating and difficult to process, especially given the event’s purpose as a joyful gathering.
Investigation Ongoing
Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting, including what led to the violence at the public event.
Authorities have not yet released further details about possible motives or additional suspects.
