A San Bernardino County community is mourning the loss of a teenage boy who was shot and killed late last week in a Victorville neighborhood.
According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, the shooting occurred on Jan. 16 just before 8:30 p.m. near the intersection of Glen Canyon Lane and Burwood Avenue, a residential area adjacent to Mojave Vista Elementary School of Cultural Arts.
Deputies arrived at the scene and found Jeremy Rosales, a 14-year-old boy, lying in the street with gunshot wounds, investigators said. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The department’s Specialized Investigations Division, Homicide Detail, has taken over the case. Authorities have not released details regarding the circumstances surrounding the shooting, nor have they provided information about any potential suspects.
Rosales, affectionately known as “Tank,” was a beloved member of Team Elite Sports Academy, where he played football. A GoFundMe fundraiser organized to support his family described him as a dedicated teammate and a positive presence on and off the field.
“Tank was more than a football player,” the fundraiser stated. “He was a great kid with an infectious smile, a loyal teammate, and a brother to so many who stood beside him on the field. He showed up with heart, grit, and humility, always lifting others up and embodying what it truly means to be part of a team.”
A vigil in Rosales’ honor is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Monday in Hesperia, according to a social media post shared by loved ones.
