Boca Raton police have arrested Marius St. Gerard, a manager at a tax preparation company, following a two-year investigation that uncovered an alleged $200,000 fraud targeting clients.
Detective Randa White of the Boca Raton Police Department said the investigation began in 2023 after CLR Credit Services reported a suspicious alert from their bank.
“We received a complaint about an employee potentially committing fraud within the agency,” White said.
Authorities allege that St. Gerard changed clients’ email addresses and bank account information, redirecting refunds to gift cards he then used to pay personal bills. “He opened accounts with the client’s information, allowing him to hide the funds until he used them,” White explained.
St. Gerard was apprehended in Clearwater, Florida, and brought back to Palm Beach County, where he has pleaded not guilty to more than a dozen charges.
Detective White urged the public to monitor their finances closely and report any suspicious activity. “Don’t remain a victim. We are here to help and to hold those responsible accountable,” she said.
