A bystander was killed after a Tesla crashed at a Folsom light rail station Thursday, officials confirmed.
Sacramento Regional Transit (SacRT) reported that shortly before 3 p.m., the Tesla struck an ADA access ramp at Iron Point Station near the Folsom Premium Outlet, flipped over, and landed on the tracks along Folsom Boulevard.
The Folsom Fire Department said the vehicle went off the roadway, hit the station platform, and struck a bystander waiting for a train. The individual was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Tesla driver, a woman, was able to exit the vehicle on her own and was transported to UC Davis Medical Center. Her condition has not been disclosed. No further details about the bystander or driver have been released.
SacRT temporarily implemented a bus bridge between Sunrise and Historic Folsom stations while crews cleared the scene and inspected the tracks for damage. Normal light rail operations resumed around 8 p.m.
Authorities have not released information on what caused the crash, and the incident remains under investigation.
