Chicago Doctor Waives Extradition Hearing in Ohio Double Homicide Case

Michael David McKee, 39, a Chicago doctor and ex-husband of Monique Tepe, waived his right to an extradition hearing in Winnebago County, Illinois, following his arrest in connection with the killings of his ex-wife Monique Tepe, 39, and her husband, dentist Dr. Spencer Tepe, 37.

McKee, charged with premeditated aggravated murder, appeared in court Monday wearing a yellow jumpsuit and shackles, showing little emotion. A hearing is scheduled for January 19 to confirm his transfer to Franklin County, Ohio, where the trial will take place.

The couple’s bodies were discovered on December 30, 2025, during a wellness check at their Columbus home after Spencer Tepe failed to show up at his dental practice. Both suffered fatal gunshot wounds. No forced entry, weapon, or theft was reported, and their two young children and dog were unharmed.

Security footage captured a person of interest in the vicinity of the home between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m., which helped authorities track McKee across state lines to his Chicago apartment.

Monique and Spencer Tepe were described by family as “extraordinary people” whose lives were full of love and joy. McKee and Monique were married in 2015 and divorced in 2017. Monique married Spencer Tepe in 2020.

Family statements following the arrest called it an “important step toward justice” and emphasized continuing support and protection for the couple’s children.
