A traffic stop that began in Cicero led to a crash and multiple arrests in Chicago, town officials said Monday.
The situation unfolded around 4 p.m. when Cicero police officers tried to conduct a traffic stop in the 4900 block of W. 26th St. According to department spokespeople, the driver briefly pulled over before speeding away. Officers did not pursue the vehicle but activated a tracking device instead.
Chicago police officers later located the vehicle and attempted another traffic stop. The suspect vehicle ultimately crashed near N. Oakley Blvd and W. Washington Blvd on the city’s Near West Side.
A WGN News crew at the scene saw two vehicles with significant damage.
Cicero police officers who arrived afterward took two individuals into custody. The department identified one of them as a known gang member in the area.
Authorities have not released the names of those detained or announced any charges connected to the incident. Police also reported no injuries.
