Firefighters Battle Recycling Facility Fire in Kalamazoo for Hours

Fire crews worked for several hours Monday night to contain a blaze at a recycling facility in Kalamazoo.

The fire was reported around 8:30 p.m. at Kalamazoo Metal Recyclers, where thick black smoke could be seen rising into the sky from the scene.

According to officials, the fire was mainly contained to an outdoor pile of materials at the recycling yard.

By about 10:30 p.m., firefighters said the blaze was roughly 50% contained, though crews expected to spend several more hours extinguishing remaining hot spots. Authorities continued monitoring the area as firefighters worked to fully control the fire.
