A seven-year legal fight stemming from a deadly crash on State Road A1A ended with a prison sentence for an Ocoee man convicted of DUI manslaughter.
Glenn W. Brimmer, 46, received a 12-year state prison sentence on November 20 for the drunk driving crash that killed 66-year-old bicyclist John D. Perrin. The sentencing follows a Brevard County jury’s September conviction, which highlighted troubling details about Brimmer’s behavior right after the crash.
According to evidence presented by Assistant State Attorneys Bernadette Serafinowicz and Greg Hansen, the crash happened on the evening of March 2, 2018. Brimmer had been drinking at the Cocoa Beach Pier before driving his Hyundai Veloster. While headed north on A1A in Cape Canaveral, he struck Perrin from behind.
Toxicology tests later showed Brimmer’s blood-alcohol level was .23—nearly triple Florida’s legal limit.
One of the most striking pieces of evidence was audio captured by Brevard County sheriff’s deputies at the scene.
During the field sobriety test, Brimmer was heard laughing and saying, “Let’s do it!” as he struggled to follow officers’ instructions.
The path to conviction took years. Prosecutors dealt with major delays, including COVID-19 court closures and a vigorous defense strategy. Brimmer’s attorneys filed more than 40 motions to dismiss the case or suppress evidence, followed by appeals after those motions were denied.
Along with his prison sentence, the court ordered Brimmer to pay $750 in restitution to help cover the victim’s funeral expenses.
