Former Michigan Substitute Teacher Pleads Guilty to Exploiting Teens on Snapchat

DETROIT, Michigan — A former substitute teacher from Clawson has pleaded guilty in federal court to charges involving the sexual exploitation of minors, after investigators say he used social media to solicit explicit content from teenage girls.

Timothy Patrick Higle, 34, entered his guilty plea on April 8 in U.S. District Court. He faces a minimum sentence of up to 15 years in prison.

Allegations Involving Snapchat and Payments

According to court documents, the case began when a 16-year-old reported the misconduct to the Michigan State Police in August 2024. Authorities say Higle:

  • Offered money in exchange for explicit photos and videos
  • Contacted a 14-year-old girl and requested sexual images
  • Sent explicit images of himself to the younger teen
  • Asked one of the minors to meet him in person

Investigators said the communication took place through Snapchat and included financial transactions via Cash App.

Investigation Uncovers Additional Victims

The case was jointly investigated by the Michigan State Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

After reviewing digital records, including financial accounts and cloud data, authorities identified four additional minor victims. Some interactions reportedly date back to March 2023, involving victims as young as middle school age.

Background and School Connection

Officials said Higle previously worked as a long-term substitute choir teacher in St. Clair County during the 2017–2019 school years. However, prosecutors noted there is no evidence the crimes occurred while he was acting in his role as a teacher.

Next Steps in the Case

Higle is scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 11 by Linda Parker.

Federal authorities are urging anyone who may have been affected or has information related to the case to contact the FBI.

Law Enforcement Response

Officials praised the victims who came forward, emphasizing the importance of reporting such crimes to protect others and hold offenders accountable.
