Glendale special education assistant charged with child sexual abuse

Joseph Vladimir Sanchez, 25, a special education assistant in Glendale, has been arrested and charged after being accused of sexually abusing children.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed eight charges, including possession of child sexual assault material. Sanchez pleaded not guilty at his arraignment on February 4 and was remanded into custody on $6 million bail.

According to Glendale Police, Sanchez was arrested on December 20 after allegedly abusing an 8-year-old special needs student at an elementary school. Investigators later identified two additional underage victims, and they believe there may be more dating back as far as three years.

Sanchez was not a city or Glendale Unified School District employee but worked as a contracted employee for the Covelo Group, assigned to Columbus Elementary and Glenoaks Elementary Schools.

Authorities released Sanchez’s booking photo and asked anyone with information to contact Glendale PD at (818) 548-4840.

Officials from Glendale Unified are fully cooperating with the investigation and assisting in identifying potential victims and witnesses.
