Grand Blanc Man Accused of Taking Missing Ohio Teen to Michigan Hotel After Online Contact

A Michigan man is facing federal charges after authorities say he transported a missing Ohio teenager across state lines following online communication that investigators described as inappropriate.

Suspect Accused of Crossing State Lines With Minor

Chason William-Gregory Pointer, 42, of Grand Blanc, has been charged with transporting a minor with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity, according to federal court records.

Officials allege Pointer traveled from Michigan to northern Ohio to pick up a 15-year-old girl before bringing her back to a hotel in Fenton.

Investigation Began With Online Tip

The case was initiated after Reddit flagged suspicious messages to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, prompting an investigation by a regional task force focused on exploitation crimes.

Authorities said the conversations, which took place in late March, included photos and personal exchanges before moving to another platform.

Teen Reported Missing in Ohio

Law enforcement in Sylvania, Ohio, confirmed the teen had been reported missing between April 2 and April 3, around the same time investigators tracked Pointer’s movements.

Data obtained from his cellphone reportedly showed he:

  • Left Grand Blanc around 12:30 a.m.
  • Arrived in the Toledo area roughly two hours later
  • Traveled back north to a Fenton hotel by 4:15 a.m.

Arrest Made at Michigan Hotel

Authorities located Pointer and the teen walking in a hotel hallway after staff identified him. Officers detained him and recovered items including a knife and cellphone.

Pointer allegedly told police the pair had met online and claimed he believed the teen was 18 years old. He later requested an attorney when questioned about further details.

Additional Charges Filed

In addition to transporting a minor, Pointer is also facing a charge of coercion and enticement.

He made his initial court appearance on April 6 and is scheduled for a detention hearing in U.S. District Court in Flint on April 10.
