Griffith Woman Charged Following Pharmacy Theft Investigation In Hammond

Melissa Danielle Vieyra, 30, of Griffith, is facing a felony theft charge after an investigation at a Hammond medical clinic allegedly revealed she removed prescription medications from the pharmacy over a two-month period while working as a pharmacy technician.

According to a probable cause affidavit, the incidents took place between October 13, 2025, and December 12, 2025, at Genoa Health Clinic in the 4000 block of Hohman Avenue in Hammond.

Loss prevention officials contacted police on December 18, 2025, and provided surveillance footage documenting multiple incidents. The affidavit states that on October 13 and October 23, Vieyra was seen taking one 600 mg Ibuprofen tablet, valued at $0.52, and consuming it.

On November 5, Vieyra was observed handling a vendor order for GLP-1 medication and removing a box of Ozempic valued at $1,197.09. According to the affidavit, she concealed the box inside a bag and left the pharmacy.

Surveillance footage from December 9 shows Vieyra placing pills from a bottle into an unlabeled vial and handing it to a man at the pharmacy window. Later that same day, she was observed placing bottles into bags and exiting the pharmacy with them.

On December 12, Vieyra was allegedly seen removing two boxes of Ozempic valued at $2,324.44 and one box of Symbicort valued at $281.14. The affidavit states she concealed the items inside a white Genoa bag, placed the bag among her personal belongings, and exited the building.

The affidavit lists the following items as stolen from Genoa Healthcare:

  • One Ibuprofen 600 mg tablet — $0.52

  • One Ibuprofen 600 mg tablet — $0.52

  • One box Ozempic 2 mg — $1,197.09

  • Two boxes Ozempic 1 mg — $2,324.44

  • One box Symbicort 160-4.5 AER — $281.14

  • One unknown white stock bottle — unknown value

  • One unknown unlabeled vial — unknown value

  • One unknown blue cap stock bottle — unknown value

The total value of the reported theft listed in the affidavit is $3,803.71.

Vieyra was lodged in the Lake County Jail on January 29, 2026.
