Brandon Leandrews Robinson, 33, of Hammond, is facing multiple felony charges after police say he stabbed two men in separate incidents just minutes apart on Feb. 12, 2026 — first inside a grocery store and later at the scene of a traffic crash on 165th Street.
According to court records, the first incident happened around 4:11 p.m. inside Van Til’s grocery store at 2635 169th Street. The victim told officers he was near the fish counter when Robinson approached him and said, “excuse me,” before becoming confrontational and allegedly threatening to kill him. The victim said as he walked toward the checkout area, Robinson ran up from behind, pulled out a black knife and stabbed him in the right side of the head before fleeing.
Store surveillance video reportedly shows a man wearing a red beanie remove an object from his pocket and strike the victim in the head before walking out of the store. Additional footage allegedly captured the suspect earlier arguing with the victim in the rear of the store before returning moments later to carry out the attack.
While officers were investigating the stabbing at the store, police learned a vehicle matching the suspect’s car had been involved in a crash on 165th Street, where a second stabbing was reported.
Investigators say a family had just left a grocery store and were traveling west near the Dollar Tree and Home Depot when their vehicle was struck. The second victim exited his car, upset that his children were inside during the crash, and confronted the other driver. Witnesses reported the men argued and began fighting, with the suspect allegedly throwing the first punch.
Police say the suspect then returned to his vehicle, retrieved a knife and stabbed the second victim before dropping the weapon in the roadway and fleeing in his car.
The second victim told officers he initially believed an older woman had been driving the other vehicle. When he opened the door, he saw a beer bottle inside and smelled alcohol. He said the driver got out as if preparing to run, and a fight broke out. The victim stated he did not realize he had been stabbed until he saw blood and released the suspect, who then drove away.
Officers later located a damaged black sedan matching the description in the 1400 block of 165th Street. Police observed the driver exiting the vehicle and noted he matched the suspect’s description and had what appeared to be blood on his clothing. He was identified as Robinson.
Authorities said the first victim suffered a stab wound to the temple area. The second victim sustained multiple head lacerations requiring stitches and a severe ear injury described as nearly severed.
Robinson is being held in the Lake County Jail. He has been charged with Aggravated Battery (Level 3 felony) and two counts of Battery With a Deadly Weapon (Level 5 felonies).
