ISP investigating deadly crash between buggy and dump truck

The Indiana State Police say they are investigating a crash between an Amish buggy and a motor vehicle that happened around 3 p.m. Wednesday on US 20 near C.R. 1000 West.

Police say their preliminary investigation showed the horse-drawn buggy, carrying 75-year-old Marvin and 74-year-old Ruby Shrock of Shipshewana, was traveling east along the shoulder of US 20.

According to authorities, a 2019 Ford F550 dump truck driven by 20-year-old Gael Reyes of Sturgis drifted onto the shoulder for an unknown reason and struck the buggy.

Marvin and Ruby died at the scene.

Their families have been notified.

Investigators say they do not suspect drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.

The ISP Critical Incident Reconstruction Team continues to investigate the incident.
