A man in Harlan County has been charged with murder following the fatal stabbing of his girlfriend, according to Kentucky State Police.
Authorities say the incident occurred on the evening of April 25 at a residence along Kentucky Highway 72.
Victim Dies After Being Stabbed Multiple Times
State police identified the suspect as Michael Howard, 36, who is accused of stabbing his girlfriend, Mary Clayborn, 50, in the chest and neck.
Emergency responders transported Clayborn to Harlan ARH Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Officials confirmed that an autopsy is scheduled to be conducted at the state medical examiner’s office to determine the exact cause of death.
Suspect Arrested Without Incident
According to investigators, Howard remained at the scene and cooperated with law enforcement officers. He was taken into custody without resistance and formally charged with murder.
He is currently being held at the Harlan County Detention Center on a $1 million bond, as per jail records.
Investigation Remains Ongoing
Authorities have not yet released additional details regarding the circumstances leading up to the stabbing. No court date has been announced so far.
