A deadly fire at an East Hollywood home on Sunday claimed the life of a 53-year-old man and his dog, according to officials with the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Firefighters responded to reports of flames at a single-family home in the 1300 block of North Kenmore Avenue just after 3 p.m. Upon arrival, crews found fire coming from one of the rooms inside the residence, fire officials said in a news release.
Based on reports that someone may have been trapped inside, firefighters immediately prioritized a search of the home.
“The adult male victim and a dog were quickly located inside the home, but firefighters on scene sadly determined both beyond medical intervention,” the release stated.
It took crews just over 20 minutes from the initial 911 call to bring the fire under control and prevent flames from spreading to neighboring homes.
Preliminary information indicates the fire began in the resident’s room before spreading to other areas of the house.
Neighbors who spoke with KTLA described the victim, who has not yet been identified, as friendly and outgoing, and said he was often seen walking through the neighborhood with his dog.
No firefighters or other civilians were injured during the incident.
“In accordance with protocol for fatal fires, LAPD, LAFD arson investigators, and the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner were attached to the incident,” officials said. “The cause of the fire remains under investigation.”
