Man arrested after victim stabbed in neck in southwest Miami-Dade

Authorities arrested a man early Monday morning after he stabbed another man in the neck in southwest Miami-Dade.

An arrest report from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office states the incident happened shortly after 6:45 p.m. Sunday in the 15800 block of Southwest 207th Avenue.

Deputies said the victim told them he got into a verbal argument with the suspect, 40-year-old Jorge Alberto Benitez of Miami, over allegations that Benitez had stolen his property.

The victim said he turned around during the dispute, and Benitez stabbed him in the neck.

According to the report, the victim managed to raise his hands to prevent the knife from cutting deeper into his throat. However, Benitez lifted the knife again and continued trying to stab the victim’s neck several times.

Deputies said Benitez later slashed the victim on the left side of the neck a second time and also stabbed him in the chest.

The victim told detectives he was eventually able to push Benitez away and escape.

He later identified Benitez in a photo shown by authorities.

Deputies said they arrested Benitez early Monday morning after responding to a call about an unknown man inside a property in the 15300 block of Southwest 207th Avenue.

Benitez faces a charge of attempted second-degree murder.

As of Monday afternoon, Benitez was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where online jail records listed his bond as “to be set.”
