A man has been taken into custody in connection with the alleged sexual assault of an underage girl in Ontario, California, authorities said.
According to the Ontario Police Department, the incident occurred on Jan. 15 while the victim was riding a local bus. She was seated near the suspect, identified as Jamely Metelus, 20, of Florida.
Police said that when the victim exited the bus, Metelus followed her. He later caught up with her and is accused of sexually assaulting the girl.
A nearby witness intervened, allowing the victim to escape. Officers responded to the area and later located Metelus. Authorities reported that he attempted to flee upon seeing police but was ultimately apprehended.
Metelus was arrested on several felony charges, including kidnapping, kidnapping to commit rape, and attempted rape of a minor female.
He was booked into the West Valley Detention Center, where he remains held on $2 million bail.
Detectives believe there may be additional victims and are continuing to investigate the case.
