Man Charged with Murder After Woman Found Dead in Clay County

A West Virginia man has been charged with first-degree murder after a woman was found shot to death in Clay County, according to authorities.

Richard Grad, 24, of Maysel, is accused of fatally shooting Savannah Keaton, 31, of Massillon, Ohio, on Thursday, according to a news release from the West Virginia State Police.

Troopers responded to a home in the Maysel area following a report of a shooting and found Keaton dead from an apparent gunshot wound.

Authorities said Grad had left the scene before troopers arrived. He later met investigators at another location, where he was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder.

Investigators said a local gas station employee helped identify Grad as a suspect after reporting that he came into the store and allegedly confessed to killing someone, according to a criminal complaint filed in Clay County Magistrate Court.

According to the complaint, Grad told investigators he and Keaton were involved in a verbal argument when he retrieved a shotgun and shot her.

The investigation remains ongoing.
