A man convicted in the fatal shooting of a Hollywood police officer has been sentenced to life in prison without parole, bringing closure to a high-profile case that has deeply impacted the law enforcement community in South Florida.

Jason Banegas received a life sentence on Wednesday for the 2021 murder of Yandy Chirino, a member of the Hollywood Police Department.
