Miami-Dade Deputy Injured While Securing Fatal Crash Scene in Opa-Locka

A deputy with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office was injured early Saturday after a secondary crash occurred while authorities were managing a deadly incident in Opa-Locka.

Fatal Crash Sparks Emergency Response

Officials said the initial crash took place around 2:44 a.m. at the intersection of Northwest 135th Street and 47th Avenue. A vehicle reportedly veered off the roadway, struck a tree, and caught fire.

Emergency crews from Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded quickly to extinguish the flames. However, the driver—identified only as an adult male—was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputy Struck During Traffic Control

While securing the area and blocking traffic to protect the crash site, a deputy’s patrol vehicle was hit by another car. Authorities said the second driver collided with the right side of the marked unit, causing visible damage.

The deputy sustained minor injuries and received treatment at the scene.

Driver Arrested, Investigation Ongoing

Law enforcement confirmed that the driver involved in the secondary collision was taken into custody. However, officials have not yet released details regarding potential charges.

Investigators are continuing to examine both incidents, and the identities of those involved—including the deceased driver and the deputy—have not been publicly disclosed.

Authorities Urge Caution on Roadways

Officials remind drivers to remain alert, especially near active crash scenes, where emergency personnel may be present and traffic patterns can change suddenly.
