Miami-Dade Landlord Arrested for Hammer Attack Over Parking Dispute

A 64-year-old Miami-Dade man was arrested Tuesday after deputies said he attacked a tenant with a hammer during a parking space dispute last month.

The incident happened on Dec. 20 in a parking lot along Southwest Eighth Avenue, according to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office. The suspect, identified as Kimber Mathew Long, is reportedly the victim’s landlord.

Deputies said that Long went to the victim’s home and argued over a vehicle parked on the property. According to the arrest report, he then armed himself with a hammer and tried to damage the victim’s motorcycle.

When the victim intervened, deputies said Long struck him multiple times with the hammer, causing lacerations to his head and arms. Authorities noted the victim is an elderly man.

Long was later identified through a photo lineup and found at his home, where he was taken into custody without incident.

Jail records show Long faces one count of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon causing great bodily harm on an elderly person.

As of Wednesday, he was being held at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, with his bond listed as “to be set.”
