A woman in South Florida is sharing her family’s grief after deputies say her father fatally shot her brother in what authorities describe as a domestic incident.
According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, the shooting occurred around 4:49 p.m. Wednesday near Southwest 168th Street and 92nd Avenue in the Palmetto Bay area.
Deputies reported that a 75-year-old man was taken into custody at the scene. Inside the home, officers found his 47-year-old son suffering from a gunshot wound. The man was later pronounced dead.
Family Warned of Tragedy for Years
The victim’s sister, who chose not to be identified, described the situation as heartbreaking, saying her family had long feared such an outcome.
She stated that her brother struggled with ongoing mental health issues and claimed he had attacked their father shortly before the shooting. According to her, the family had repeatedly sought help over the years but was unable to prevent the situation from escalating.
“This is something we’ve seen coming for years,” she said, expressing deep emotional distress over the loss of both her brother and the circumstances involving her father.
Prior Calls to the Home
Authorities confirmed that deputies had responded to the residence multiple times in the past due to mental health-related incidents.
Investigators also noted that a disturbance could be heard during the 911 call leading up to the shooting, though the exact sequence of events remains under review.
