Michigan Man Dies in Marshall County Crash

A Michigan man died Saturday morning in a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of U.S. 31 and State Road 10 in Argos.

According to the Marshall County Coroner’s Office, the crash occurred at 7:55 a.m. Dec. 6.
The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office reported that Eric Eichenberger, 55, of Michigan, was driving a 2024 Freightliner semitractor-trailer northbound on U.S. 31 when a UPS truck crossed the highway westbound from SR 10, causing him to slow down.

Behind the UPS truck, Christopher J. Jankoviak, 57, of Niles, Michigan, was driving a 2022 Chevrolet Equinox westbound. Jankoviak’s vehicle crossed in front of Eichenberger’s semi, and Eichenberger was unable to avoid impact, striking the Equinox on the driver’s side. Both vehicles came to rest in the median north of the intersection.

Deputy Coroner John Lampkins pronounced Jankoviak dead at the scene.

A passenger in Jankoviak’s vehicle—whose name has not been released—was taken to Memorial Hospital in South Bend.

Agencies responding included the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, Argos Police Department, Argos Fire and EMS, and the Marshall County Coroner’s Office.
