A federal judge in El Paso has sentenced 43-year-old Edgar Omar Martinez of Anthony, New Mexico, to 262 months (over 21 years) in prison for trafficking approximately 1.5 kilograms of fentanyl.
Martinez was arrested on March 14, 2025, after FBI agents discovered about 17,000 fentanyl pills in his vehicle. Court records show he obtained the drugs from a co-conspirator two weeks prior and was expecting $3,200 for his role in the conspiracy.
He was charged on April 9 with one count of possessing with intent to distribute 400 grams or more of fentanyl and one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute the same amount. Martinez pleaded guilty to both charges on August 26, 2025.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Kyle Myers and Michael Williams under U.S. Attorney Justin R. Simmons for the Western District of Texas. Judge Leon Schydlower presided over the case, which was investigated by the FBI.
