Court records say a Nitro man is facing an attempted murder charge after shots were fired during an argument with his wife early Monday morning.
Police were first called to a home in Nitro just after 4 a.m. after a woman reported she had locked herself inside a bedroom during an argument and that her husband was trying to break the door down, according to a criminal complaint filed in Kanawha County Magistrate Court.
The suspect, identified as 77-year-old Warren Bruce Crowder, is accused of firing four shots at the door in an effort to get inside, the complaint states.
When officers arrived, they said they could see Crowder’s wife through the bedroom window. Police said Crowder, who allegedly refused to cooperate, was also seen attempting to force the door open.
After officers entered the home, they reported finding four bullet holes in the door — two in the wood and two near the deadbolt and doorknob. Police said Crowder later admitted he fired the shots knowing his wife was three to four feet behind the door.
Crowder is charged with attempted murder and four counts of wanton endangerment. He is currently being held on a $50,000 bond.
