Authorities are searching for a suspect involved in a deadly hit-and-run that claimed the life of a pedestrian in East Los Angeles early Tuesday morning.
The crash happened around 11:02 p.m. Monday at the intersection of East Olympic Boulevard and South Arizona Avenue. Officials said the victim was crossing the street when the vehicle struck him.
Witnesses reported that the driver initially stopped after the collision but then exited the car and fled the scene on foot. Some bystanders also noted seeing multiple individuals running away from the vehicle.
One witness described the chaotic moment, saying parts of the car broke off on impact before the driver abandoned the vehicle and ran across the street.
Officers from the California Highway Patrol arrived shortly after and discovered the victim lying on the roadway. Emergency responders from the Los Angeles County Fire Department pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene.
The identity of the victim has not yet been released.
