MIAMI, Fla. — Residents in the Liberty City area say a suspected “porch pirate” has been repeatedly stealing packages, with multiple incidents captured on home security cameras over several days.
Thefts Caught on Video Across Neighborhood
In one video recorded Wednesday, the suspect is seen riding a bicycle up to a home, grabbing a package, and hiding it under his shirt before riding away.
Victim Shanika Brown said she later spotted the same individual riding through the neighborhood and attempted to confront him.
“So I called out to him, and he sped off on his bike,” Brown said, adding that her sister briefly followed the suspect and believes she identified where he may live.
Multiple Residents Report Similar Incidents
Neighbors say the thefts are not isolated. Several residents reported missing packages, with at least one parent saying items meant for a child’s birthday were stolen.
Another surveillance clip recorded Thursday — about five blocks away — appears to show the same suspect attempting to take multiple packages, including items intended for pets.
The homeowner involved in that incident filed a police report, noting similar thefts across the area.
Police Investigating Ongoing Thefts
The City of Miami Police Department confirmed it is investigating the incidents.
Authorities have not yet released the suspect’s identity but are reviewing video evidence and tips provided by residents.
Safety Tips to Prevent Package Theft
Police are urging residents to take precautions to avoid becoming victims of package theft:
- Ask a neighbor to collect deliveries when you’re away
- Use secure delivery options like locker pickups
- Install security cameras or doorbell systems
- Report thefts to law enforcement immediately
Community Calls for Accountability
Neighbors believe the suspect may be young and are urging his family to intervene before the situation escalates.
Brown also issued a warning, emphasizing that repeated thefts could lead to dangerous confrontations.
